UK News: After week of turbulence in markets, December CPI reading shows prices rose at slower rate than in November

UK inflation unexpectedly fell in December, handing some breathing space to the chancellor, Rachel Reeves, after a week of turbulence in financial markets.

With the government under pressure on the economy, figures from the Office for National Statistics showed the consumer prices index eased to 2.5%, below a reading of 2.6% in November, meaning prices rose at a slower rate. Continue reading…

UK News: Many local authorities facing bankruptcy as government criticised for lack of urgency

The crisis in special educational needs and disabilities (Send) in England risks creating a “lost generation” of children, while putting “almost half” of all councils with an education remit in danger of bankruptcy within 15 months, parliament’s spending watchdog has warned.

Data reverses previous 0.1% drop and marks first judgment on impact of chancellor’s budget

The UK economy grew by 0.1% in November, reversing a 0.1% drop in the previous month and easing pressure on embattled chancellor Rachel Reeves.
